As Easter fades in the distance, my Easter egg that had melted leaving a perfect foil egg to trick me is eaten, it is about time I posted something on my journal. I have had a good weekend of heading back to the place of my birth, seeing family (Dad is doing well, I have left with the first two CD sets of Battlestar Galactica to watch whilst he recovers) and also friends. Ended up at one of those parties where everyone is there. Except for an odd few people I saw most of my friends (known as ‘Marrowbrook’) over the last 14 years in that one house on that one night. I also ended up staying in my old room at the house of Marrowbrook, the home of my early adult years and many good times. The room is still the purple and black that I painted it when I moved in. It brought back many memories as I laid there looking up at the underneath of my old black shelves. I wrote a little poem that started as a text, its simple but for me poignant.

Laying in Bed in my old Room

Old Room

Stayed in my old room last night.
Lots of memories.
Many smiles.
Some tears.
It was good to see you.

Onto another memory,

Many, many years ago when I was a Technical College at the tender age of 18. It was a dark evening between the departure of Autumn and the arrival of Winter. I remember being sat in the Library watching short films from Channel 4′s ’4mation’ collection. It was already a atmospheric and spooky night, the Library was quiet and generally empty. I grabbed one of the VHS videos off the shelf and sat back down at the CRT television with a the built in video player and massive black headphones. I had found a animation short called ‘The Sandman‘. I was engrossed in instantly, loving the style and story. It stuck with for many years, but had trouble sourcing a copy. But as seasons passed and returned the Internet grew and youtube was born. And once again I could watch the short animation that had spooked me out so much all those years ago. It was directed by Paul Berry who went onto bigger things with the likes of Tim Burton with ‘The Nightmare before Christmas‘ and ‘James and the Giant Peach‘. The sandman inspired by ‘Hoffmanns’ novella ‘The Sandman’ and is is very expressionist drawing on many infulences from German film to Hitchcock.

So if it is bright outside, wait till its dark. If it is noisy and busy around you, wait until your alone…

…is it dark?

…are you alone?

Enjoy…

For those who read the posting about Volcano Redoubt doing its funky electrical storm thing.

OK, so things have change since my previous posting claimed. My Dad is still having some problems with his sense of rhythm, but then Dad’s are not meant to have have rhythm it shows in their dancing. Anyhow, after the raging success post-surgery; he has had to have some shocks directly to his heart to improve his rhythm. So whilst he is stable he is still not quite out of the woods yet.

I saw him yesterday, venturing into London amidst the G20 protests (off which I only saw anything of in newspapers and the BBC website). All those cables and tubes kinda made me think I have a USB Dad now. I’ll see if I can plug him into his PC when he gets home, maybe I’ll get the ‘This device can perform faster if you use a USB2.0 port’ message. There was numerous machines around him, all connected to a central power stem, thoughts of science fiction jumped to mind. So if not USB will he be assimulated or maybe a cylon infact? Sorry geek humour in bad times help me stay sane (ish). It’s the best conversation outside of hospital things i can come up with.

Thanks to everyone for their support and kind words, espesically those people in London who are either under similar duress in the hospital and random meetings outside the hospital. Funny how fate deals the cards you need when you need them most.

Firstly apologies for those few who have been awaiting the next journal update with clenched anticipation (few being the word). It’s been a manic few days since Thursday when I had a job interview of which I failed. But that’s OK, I went for the experience as much as the potential to progress and other doors may open yet.

My father has headed into hospital so they can cut abit of his heart out to help the blood flow, a strange time indeed. It was known to be coming for many months, but when the go ahead was announced there was little time for it to sink in. I saw him yesterday as I escorted my mother to London to be with him for a next few days. Whilst I have a good sense of confidence in surgery today and the fact the surgeon is one of the best in the world today, I still worry and understandably so. So my thoughts go out to my parents and thanks to the Heart Hospital in London for looking after him so well.

The knock on effects of times like these is thoughts on one selves mortality and the important things in the life. So many things to worry about out there and so many things that have made us step back when we should step forward. But they are small and its good to remember beyond the 9-5 and mortgages that we are alive and there is a world out full of wonders and moments.

So as I listen to Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Soundtrack for the frak knows how many time (it is good thought music though) and rebuild my Fathers computer for his return, I will sign off and post again in a few days.

PS: I have removed a not working comment security gizmo thing, so you should be able to comment now. Time to see if anyone is wanting to comment now! eeek!

Just finished watching the last of the Battlestar Galactica series. Totally blown away!!!

I’ve followed it since the start, even being a big fan of the original series. They truly made a beautiful thing the second time around, and an end worthy of the build up over 4 seasons. I will miss the suspense of what the hell was going on and the nuclear cliff hangers. But it leaves you with a real sense of wonderment and magic with the world outside of the television.

Too everyone involved in the making of it, thank you for creating something so awesome in my lifetime.

Signing off.
