So anyone out there know ‘Waking the Dead’? The UKs answer to ‘CSI’ minus the endless budget (both for the show and the investigations), strippers and the non sense of realism. So in-fact whilst I like CSI alot, Waking the Dead is far more realistic and substanial.

Waking the Dead Copyright BBC

Anyway the programme itself is just a side product, the glass wipeboard is the juicy bit of hardware I want to blog about with you today. If you watch ‘Waking the dead‘ you know the glass wipeboard is a marvellous thing, it is where words are added, photos are stuck on, deep and meaningful looks are made through and of course the case is solved. Since then I always wanted one, no real reason except it was cool!

So a visit to IKEA for the glass table top cover, a trip to B&Q for some mirror wall mounts and wet chalk pens from the stationary store and I have my glorious wipeboard. I never expected how useful it is in my life now.

The Wipeboard in all it's glory! (Ignore the reflection, I never invited him)

Beyond the strange scribbles and messages from my girlfriend as she drinks her coffee in the morning, it has helped me construct storylines for my stories on imaginetales.co.uk, brought the chaos of job applications and interviews into some sense, reminded me to buy coffee, pack for a journey and even keep my girlfriend sane getting ready for a night out in London.

I like to think it even has a small sense of style, whilst clear of scribbles and doddles it looked odd, but once you add content it has purpose and looks perfectly fine. Either way it looks better than plain old whiteboard.

Geek Corner with the wipeboard alongside industrial music giants

My glass wipeboard is a wonderful thing and anyone who has to organise and easily get those wondering thoughts down before they get lost, I really recommend one!

Firstly apologies for those few who have been awaiting the next journal update with clenched anticipation (few being the word). It’s been a manic few days since Thursday when I had a job interview of which I failed. But that’s OK, I went for the experience as much as the potential to progress and other doors may open yet.

My father has headed into hospital so they can cut abit of his heart out to help the blood flow, a strange time indeed. It was known to be coming for many months, but when the go ahead was announced there was little time for it to sink in. I saw him yesterday as I escorted my mother to London to be with him for a next few days. Whilst I have a good sense of confidence in surgery today and the fact the surgeon is one of the best in the world today, I still worry and understandably so. So my thoughts go out to my parents and thanks to the Heart Hospital in London for looking after him so well.

The knock on effects of times like these is thoughts on one selves mortality and the important things in the life. So many things to worry about out there and so many things that have made us step back when we should step forward. But they are small and its good to remember beyond the 9-5 and mortgages that we are alive and there is a world out full of wonders and moments.

So as I listen to Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Soundtrack for the frak knows how many time (it is good thought music though) and rebuild my Fathers computer for his return, I will sign off and post again in a few days.

PS: I have removed a not working comment security gizmo thing, so you should be able to comment now. Time to see if anyone is wanting to comment now! eeek!

This is a bit of thoughtful journal entry. I’m watching ‘The Natural World’ on BBC iplayer (what a wonderful thing it is), its about the life around the Alaskan shores, how the plankton bloom provides so much life in such a hostile environment for not only around the oceans, but it provides half our oxygen. It features seal lions, orcas, humpbacked whales and many more sea creatures and plants. I went to Alaska many years ago on a snowboarding holiday, I had an awesome time, excellent people, awesome snow and amazing wildlife. I went on a whale spotting boat trip and by amazing luck saw a pod of orcas. It was a truly fantastic experience and in the last year decided to makes plans to go back there for a real adventure.

I got made redundant 4 months ago and lost a lot of motivation about living where I do, so decided it was time to get off the rat race for a bit. I planned to rent out my flat, move back with the folks, find work and save up. Then 2010 take 3 months out to travel Alaska. See the islands and seas off the southern coast, travel up north to Barrow and the artic circle to see Polar bears and then get some snowboard time in back in Girdwood, where I was before.

Not a bad plan all in all, but has fallen short with the current economic climate, the finding work thing has not gone so well. Luckily life in Southampton has improved personally and I found work back at the Coastguard from where I once left. It has opened opportunities to experience the world of journalism, which from my writing perspective is awesome. The downside is that if I follow this path then the whole Alaskan trip would need to be reworked as I would have to stay in my flat and it would take longer to save up and I expect only to be able to take a month off work with out risk of unemloyment on my return. Still a month is month and a job is a job.

I hope that freelance web work will help with the Alaskan fund, I get one of two potential perm jobs at the coastguard and my writing amounts to something. In the meantime I have stories to write, photos to take, friends to be with, a girl to cuddle and journal to write. It’s all good and dreams can come true with the right perspective.

So as I blow my nose which is either the result of a spring cold coming on or the scene of the mother sea lion trying to awaken its dead baby on the rocks after it had been killed by a passing storm. Who knows, but I am off now to be creative, either photos or a story, which ever grabs me first.

Have a marvellous evening all
